• "We promised to expand the circle of opportunity, and we have done that by saving and creating good jobs, providing support for struggling families, building a world-class education system, and expanding the new energy economy. We know times are tough but so are Coloradans. As we look back, our work is not done, but we have done more with less and are making clear progress. "

Dianne Primavera State Representative Dianne Primavera (D-Broomfield)

Representative Dianne Primavera is serving her second term for House District 33 in Broomfield, Superior, and parts of Erie, Lafayette, Westminster and Weld County. She is Chair of the Legislative Audit Committee, and is a member of the Health and Human Services Committee and the Transportation & Energy Committee.

Rep. Primavera has been working in the field of disability, employment and health care for more than 40 years. Prior to being elected, she gained national, state, and local recognition for her work on behalf of the citizens of the state of Colorado, including the Governor’s Peak Performance Award for Citizen Satisfaction. After her first session, Rep. Primavera received the Colorado Legislator Award from the Colorado Women’s Chamber and the Denver Women’s Commission for her work in health care. The Colorado Society of Clinical Neurologists and the Boulder and Broomfield Mental Health Associations also honored her.

Rep. Primavera has a long history of community service and volunteer work. She served on the 17th Judicial District Victim’s Compensation Board. The Broomfield City Council and Mayor appointed her to two terms on the Broomfield County Health and Human Services Advisory Board. Rep. Primavera has been an active Stephen Minister with the Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church, and has served as her class representative for Regis College, raising thousands of dollars in scholarships for students who could not afford to attend Regis without financial aid.

As a four-time cancer survivor, Rep. Primavera works tirelessly on health care reforms. In the 2008 session, Rep. Primavera sponsored several health care bills, including HB 1385 which created an apples-to-apples consumer shopping guide for health insurance, and requires insurance brokers to tell customers how much commission they make on each policy they sell. Her HB 1372 established the Colorado Stem Cells Cure Funds, and a check-off on the Colorado income tax form. The fund provides resources to allow new mothers across the state to donate the stem cells found in umbilical cord blood to a public cord blood bank. Those stem cells can then be used in treatments for illnesses including leukemia, sickle cell anemia, and cerebral palsy.

She received her BS degree in Psychology as a member of the first class of women admitted to Regis College in Denver. She received her MA for Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling from the University of Northern Colorado. Rep. Primavera is one of five children and is a second-generation Colorado native. She has raised two accomplished daughters as a single parent. She loves her 6 a.m. “boot-camp” classes and ballroom dancing.
